2003 Ford Cobra Mustang

The 2003 Ford Cobra Mustang
set a new standard for SVT performance vehicles. The 2003 Cobra
Mustang featured a huge increase in power with the addition of a
Eaton supercharger and a host of power related upgrades. The 2003
Cobra Mustang was known as the "terminator" during pre-production
phase and represents the pinnacle of Mustang performance.
The heart of the powerful 2003 Cobra is the new
390hp 4.6L DOHC 4-valve V8 engine with a Eaton M112 roots style
supercharger running 8psi of intercooled boost. Internal engine
components are extra strong to handle the boost and feature Manley
H beam connecting rods, specially designed Zolner pistons, heavy
duty cast iron block, and aluminum flywheel. The Cobra was available
with a Tremec T-56 six-speed transmission (first time in a Mustang)
or with a beefed up automatic. Cobra's came standard with a 31 spline
independent rear suspension rear axle and 3.55 gears. When taken
to the local drag strip in stock trim Cobra Mustangs ran high 12's
at nearly 110mph.

The suspension of the 2003 Cobra Mustang features
a few upgrades from the 2001 model including increased spring rates,
Bilstein dampers on the front and rear, and the addition of more
durable brake pads. As with previous Cobra Mustangs the rear axle
features an independent (IRS) setup.
2003Cobra Mustang rear suspension
The exterior of the Cobra Mustang has only minor changes to distinguish
it from a 2003 Mustang
GT. The car features the SVT standard round fog lamps, redesigned
front fascia to allow more cold air into the engine compartment,
duel vented hood, distinct side body panel moldings, redesigned
rear spoiler, and embossed COBRA logo into the rear bumper area.
All 2003 and 2004 Cobra Mustangs ride on 17 by 9 aluminum chrome
five spoke wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 Z rated tires.
