1963 Chevrolet Nova SS
The 1963 Nova SS was the first year for the SS moniker. The Super
Sport package essentially was cosmetic and included updates to the
trim level both inside and outside the vehicle. This initial year
of SS production was not performance oriented in the way we think
of a typical Chevrolet SS package. However, in a few short years
this would change drastically. For 1963 the 194 cid 6 cylinder motor
was the motor of choice. It wasn’t until 1964 that the 283cid
V8 motor became an option.
However, it was possible in 1962 and 1963 to have a dealer installed
Corvette V8 motor in a Chevy II if you so desired. Adding the 360
hp 327cid motor to the economy compact car turned it into an absolute
rocket. Production statistics are unavailable
