The first official year of production saw the mustang offered with
only limited performance motors and with a coupe and convertible
only. Those who bought mustangs loved the long hood and short trunk
styling the new Ford Mustang offered. Ford heavily marketed the
mustang which turned out to be a massive success. It wasn't until
1965 that the Mustang got it's performance image.
