> Muscle Car Specifications > Plymouth Specs 1972 Plymouth Road Runner

As with all other car companies, the 1972 model year was a vast change from
previous years. The exterior of the 1972 Plymouth Road Runner looked virtually
the same as the 1971 production save for a new grill and optional fender tape
stripes. However, it was under the hood where the major changes were taking
place. Gone were the high compression big bore motors. Instead were more emissions
friendly and gas conservative drivetrains. The Hemi and Six Pack were now extinct
as were aggressive gear rations.
The Road Runner base model included a bored out 383 which netted a 400 cid
motor. Running 8.2 compression this motor was rated at 255hp (NET). However,
a low compression 440 was available if you ordered the "GTX" package.
This package included special badges on the side of the car and on the trunk
lid.
