How To Install Wheel Studs
Recently we had to replace the factory left hand thread front wheel studs on our 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 restoration project. It turns out that installing new studs is actually quite easy if you have the right tools.
Assuming you have the hubs freed of the old studs there are only a few steps to follow. I'm sure there are many other methods but this system worked great for our restoration project.
Step 1: You will need some tools. In our case we used an electric impact driver, a few large diameter washers, a 3/4 inch impact socket and a lug nut.
Step 2: Line up the stud facing through from behind the hub and put on 2 large washers that are larger than the circumference of the splines. Thread on the lug nut with the flat side against the washers. Thread it on hand tight so that it lines up the stud into the hole.
Step 3: Use the impact driver and torque down the lug nut until the stud has bottomed out in the hub assembly.
Step 4: Repeat the process for the remaining studs.
